Collier Meyer

Assistant Production Coordinator on Bill & Ted Face The Music

Bill & Ted are BACK

The iconic duo, starring Keanu Reeves as Ted and Alex Winter as Bill, return to the screen after 25 years! We had the chance to talk to Collier Meyer, Assistant Production Coordinator on Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Collier Meyer, based in New Orleans since 2015, is a very productive member of the industry. Today we’re discovering what it’s like to be a Production Coordinator and how SetKeeper facilitated his workflow and was the perfect tool to meet the challenges of being a POC/APOC.

Collier used SetKeeper for Sides and Watermarking & Distribution. Every night he made the sides, then sent the call sheet and the script/schedule to the whole production team in the morning.

Before using SetKeeper, Collier would send the call sheet to each distro list manually by email. On Bill & Ted, that meant sending several emails per day. “We would send every day at least one preliminary call sheet to wide groups, at least 250 people. A first shot email in the morning and [another] when we get back from lunch. Then the wrap report, and a summary of the day. I’d say we would send 8 emails a day, at least!”

“The people who recommended SetKeeper to me already had my trust so I knew they were on to something.”

For Collier, the Assistant Production Coordinator is the central hub of information for the film. He’s the master distributor and the guardian of all information coming to the production office. “I make sure that everything that comes my way that is unresolved is resolved – schedule, medical paperwork, contracts, memos.”

It's also making sure that it runs as well as possible. The office must be a total team unit. “Distribution, call sheets, wrap reports; that doesn’t just fall on the APOC/POC.”

Here's a peek at a day in the life of an APOC: “First thing in the morning I go through the production report, the daily files, the loss and damages report. For example, I’m making sure that anything related to insurance is taking care of as fast as I can, immediately. Then I go over around 300 emails a day. We’re getting requests from 6 am to 3 am and everything is an emergency. My advice is: step away from your desk, breathe and be pragmatic. Think about the ways to solve things and do it.”

“Everything the light touches has a paper trail and that paper trail comes to my desk ”.
