Action-packed drama, creativity-driven production
Alex is a police drama produced by SF Studios that we’re shooting in Sweden, in the city of Gothenburg. The show is designed to be more action-packed than traditional Nordic noirs. It tells the story of a corrupt cop, Alex, who has decided to come clean about his past.
It’s a project with a lot of variety and we’re facing a lot of unique situations that require finding different solutions for each problem.
We also face many challenges to shoot action scenes in the best possible and realistic way. For example, we had to find a way to pull off a car chase or to stage an explosion with twenty actors in close proximity.
Bridging production and creativity
As a Line Producer my job is to keep an overview of all costs and to make sure that we put the money in the right place to get the best possible results.
I think the most interesting part of this job is the creative aspect of it. I do have a creative influence when I find a way to justify why I think a particular idea can be great. I can then suggest that we develop it because it will pay-off story wise, emotionally or action wise. I thoroughly enjoy that part of the job.
“With SetKeeper, our teams can work around the same central point of information, the platform enables a smooth production process”
The most important aspect of SetKeeper to me is actually the calendar. In production, it can be a tough job to be sure that we’re all looking at the same calendar because we’re teaming with freelancers from all over and everybody is used to working in a certain way with their own tools. So, by using SetKeeper I can get people to sit down and look at the exact same information.
“The calendar is especially important for me: it helps me in keeping myself and all our teams organized.”
SetKeeper helps with casting and location scouting as well, particularly well for casting and my casting director is very used to it. It really helps with locations, although it feels like this department is always going to be a bit chaotic, no matter how you twist and turn it.
A great SetKeeper feature is the ability to create script sides. I very much appreciated it on another production. I would definitely use it again.
“On season 1 we exported sides from Final Draft but it’s easier to do with SetKeeper because now I can just give this task to anyone on my production crew without having to buy a new final draft license.”
